The role of neuronal somatostatin (SS) in the potentiation of sympathetic outflow to the mesenteric artery was studied in anaesthetized rats. Intravenous administration of SS induced a dose-dependent reduction in the norepinephrine overflow in the mesenteric artery. Intravenous administration of guanethidine (5 mg/kg) significantly attenuated the inhibition of norepinephrine overflow induced by SS (10 micrograms/kg). Pretreatment with SS did not influence the bradykinin-induced norepinephrine overflow. Pretreatment with SS induced a dose-dependent reduction in the norepinephrine overflow in the artery following electrical stimulation of the splanchnic nerve. Pretreatment with guanethidine significantly attenuated the inhibition of norepinephrine overflow induced by SS (10 micrograms/kg). These results suggest that a SS-containing nerve may exist in the rat splanchnic nerve and that SS may be involved in the potentiation of sympathetic outflow to the mesenteric artery.Second-generation metal-organic frameworks as highly active and recyclable catalysts.
